How Far Does 28 Miles Really Get You?

The International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE) provides a big opportunity to build awareness with the animal food industry and stakeholders of the great work the Institute for Feed Education and Research is doing and to establish relationships that can lead to commitments for project support. As many of you know, IPPE presents a one-stop shop for the feed, animal production and processing industries. For IFEEDER, that means presentations, brand presence, industry and stakeholder meetings and media interviews.

At January's expo, I had the opportunity to:

  • Highlight IFEEDER’s recent sustainability work with the International Feed Industry Federation’s Sustainability Committee.
  • Provide an update on the IFEEDER Sustainability Road Map project with 125 participants of the Animal Agriculture Sustainability Summit, hosted by the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association, the Meat Institute and the American Feed Industry Association.
  • Provide a broad update and engage with AFIA’s Quality and Animal Food Safety Committee.
  • Present on how feed can support its customers’ and stakeholders' sustainability efforts at AFIA’s “Feed Your ESG” education program (read more below).
  • Give an IPPE TECH Talk on how feed decisions can reduce the environmental footprint of the industry’s customers.
  • Speak to two trade media outlets, Feed Navigator and Engormix, as well as participate in interviews ahead of the conference.
  • Meet new people and catch up with colleagues at the AFIA/IFEEDER booth.
  • Hold meetings with 18 feed industry members and stakeholders.
  • Attend two great receptions, hosted by Watt’s Feed and Grain and Novus International.

According to my Garmin and the AFIA staff tally, that's what you can do in a 28-mile journey at IPPE.

Mitloehner to Headline Animal Agriculture Sustainability Summit

Each year, the AFIA Equipment Manufacturers Committee (EMC) and IFEEDER collaborate to provide $35,000 in scholarships for university students with interests in animal nutrition. At IPPE, Feed and Grain hosted a reception that raised $4,100 for the scholarship fund, almost doubling the proceeds from the 2023 event.

Terry Medemblik, president of Walinga, won an iPad Air, furnished by?Maxi-Lift Inc., as part of the raffle drawing. Thank you to all who joined us at this event and participated in this important scholarship program!

IFEEDER In The Media

Feed Industry Must Build Own ESG Journey: During IPPE, IFEEDER’s Board of Trustees Chair Mike Gauss, president of Kent Animal Nutrition, and IFEEDER Executive Director Lara Moody participated in the AFIA symposium “Feed Your ESG: How Feed Will Help Hit Sustainability Targets.” Insights into Kent’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) efforts as well as IFEEDER’s efforts to help the feed industry support its customers’ sustainability goals are highlighted in the World-Grain article.
